Plumbing Inspection & Backflow Prevention

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department provides registration of all plumbing contractors and their employees, and inspections of all commercial and residential plumbing installations. Staff also conducts plan reviews and inspections for all medical gas installations. The Plumbing Inspectors are certified with the State of Ohio Department of Commerce and maintain those certifications by attending the required certification classes annually.

Food Service Plan Review Must Be Done First!

A Food Service Plan Review must be done first by the Health Department having jurisdiction before plumbing plans will be reviewed and approved. After a plumbing permit has been purchased, a copy will be sent by fax to the Health Department having jurisdiction.

Plumbing Registration
ZMCHD requires registration for all contractors installing plumbing. To apply to register as a plumber in Muskingum County, please email Tara Rock, Environmental Administrative Assistant, or call 454-9741 extension 221.

Backflow Prevention
City of Zanesville commercial water customers must have a backflow prevention device installed and tested by January 31, 2014.
ZMCHD works to identify backflow devices in our jurisdiction and to ensure they are tested annually.
