Every year the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Dental Sealant Team visits each of these school districts to place dental sealants on children’s teeth. A permission form is sent home in 2nd and 6th grades and needs to be returned to their teacher to receive this service.
Dental health is very important for children! Tooth decay may cause pain and infection, resulting in missed school days and learning opportunities. In Ohio and across the country tooth decay is the single most common childhood disease. It is more common than asthma and hay fever.
The process for dental sealants is simple and painless. The teeth are screened and sealants are painted on the grooves of healthy permanent molars. This procedure will seal out the food and germs that could get trapped in the grooves of your child’s teeth and help prevent decay. This sealant process takes as little as 10 minutes and can last up to 20+ years.
If you have any questions about this program please feel free to call the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Dental Sealant Team at 740-454-9741.
