County Board of Health


The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is governed by a 6-person Board with members appointed by the City of Zanesville and the Health District Advisory Council. Each member serves a 6-year term and is eligible for reappointment. Board of Health meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6pm, with special sessions called as needed. Health Commissioner

Corey Hamilton is the Health Commissioner with the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department. She holds a Masters Degree in Nutrition and is both a Registered and Licensed Dietitian. The Health Commissioner is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Health Department. Responsibilities include planning for and directing departmental operations; implementing policies, goals and objectives in the areas of finance, client services and personnel management. Before entering the Health Department, Hamilton worked at the Ohio Department of Health for seven years, most recently as Nutrition Services Bureau Chief. She has previously worked with Genesis HealthCare System as Muskingum County WIC Coordinator.

Medical Director

Dr. Butterfield is the Medical Director with the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department. He is board certified in family medicine. He earned his bachelor degree in Chemistry from Wittenberg University. Dr. Butterfield earned his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. The Medical Director is responsible for development and evaluation of standards of medical care through the department, providing medical direction to clinical staff, and advising the department in matters of medical policy. Dr. Butterfield recently retired from his Roseville medical practice after 35 years.
